Classic Albums at the National Media Museum

Inline Image

Following the great success of Photocamp Bradford {2009} back in September, we're pleased to announce the next joint-venture. Brian Liddy, Curator of Collections Access, is very interested in getting active photographers involved and using the collections (archives) in the museum and based on this, our first event will be an overview of the collections and a chance to have a hands-on look at some significant historic photo albums. This has been popular, however there are still a few places left, so pop over to the Exposure Leeds website for more information and booking instructions.

Monthly meetup - 2nd December

Inline Image

We've a cracking line-up for this month's Exppsure Leeds...

  • Brian Liddy, who is also presenting the 'Classic Albums' event is going to come along and give us a potted history of festive photography with images from the National Media Museum's collections. Brian assures me that this will be an utter cheese-fest!
  • I've been asked often about doing beginners courses or sessions - and this has been a problem; but John Smith will be coming along to show how the Open University can help - with a Flickr-style course. Come along, find out more and get a glimpse of how you could get the basics nailed-down!

Print Swap
A great chance to get a print of someone else's photos -with minimum outlay!
How it works is really simple - choose a photo of your own you like; get it printed (machine prints at a lab or photo paper, please); hand it in when you arrive at Exposure Leeds; peruse the gallery later and select the print you want to take home. Its that easy.

Details
6pm - 9pm on Wednesday 2nd December.
Location; Old Broadcasting House, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds LS2 9EN - the former BBC building. Directions

Entry is £2 and this includes the printswap, hot drinks (subject to availability) and a festive treat...

Facebook and social networking

Just a quick update; in addition to our Flickr group and Twitter account we are now also promoting activities on Facebook in a similar group. I'd also like to introduce you to my co-admins; Paul Hodgson (Box of Frogs) and Mark Skeet are going to be helping me keep our online social channels updated.

Why are we active in so many places?  This is mainly for marketing purposes; to cast the net as wide as possible. You don't need to join the Facebook group if you are active elsewhere!

Note: we've stopped using Upcoming as it didn't seemed to get much use - and it takes time to post to all these sites; if anyone feels we're missing a trick here - please let me know!

Want to help Exposure Leeds?

We are looking to create a team to help keep Exposure Leeds going - in an attempt to ensure that there's no 'burn out' and to bring new ideas to the mix. If you're interested in giving a little time and effort to keeping this going  - please drop me an email

Round-up

Inline Image

A number of you will know of Jacob's digital shops from other cities (or indeed from when they were in the Victoria Quarter). Well, they're back in Leeds - with a shop on Albion Street, opposite Waterstones. And Alex, the store manager is very interested in finding out about the local photography communities. Not only are we posting special discounts in the Exposure Leeds group on flickr, but Alex has also offered to give free sensor cleaning training (on your camera or a demo) - just go into the store and ask for Alex.

Forthcoming events:

  • Exposure Leeds 11; John Houlihan  - 6th January
  • Street Photography Day; details tbc - January
  • Strobistcamp; details tbc - March

...all of which will be covered in the next newsletter!

if you've any questions, please ask away on Facebook, Flickr or Twitter - or reply to this email!

See you on the 2nd...

Cheers, Jon
