Tuesday 30 March

Yet more great stuff's been happening...

So much entertainment and sharing - a simply great series of events in March...

  • Danny North entertained us all with his experiences (and photos) of bands and other musicians
  • The next night a number of members attended YPN's Flash Centre demo at Leeds College of Art & Design
  • On the following weekend was the Si Young portraiture training at Camera Society
  • At Kirkstall Abbey on 13th we started the KIrkstall Abbey People Project
  • And then there was Leeds Portrait Event on the 20th - where almost 40 of us spent a day discussing and practicing portraiture.

Further to the promoted events we also had Earth Hour - a number of members took part in a social interaction involving glowsticks for my birthday - was loads of fun! Did you do anything for Earth Hour? If you did - please let me know.

So - what next?

Well, April is a little calmer there's one or two less activities but we've still got a few things upcoming.

  • The Kirkstall Abbey People Project is still ongoing - look out for more soon
  • On 4th April we are supporting the 4am Project. This is dead simple - get up at 04:00 and take a photo of where you are. It's that simple. Sign up on Facebook | Visit project website

Wanted - speakers

We're now looking for speakers / workshops for Exposure Leeds from may onwards - is there a subject you could present on, or do you know of someone who would be interested on a subject; if so then email me!

April 7th - Tim Parkin

Coming to talk to us for our May event is Tim Parkin - landscape photographer extraordinaire...

From his website: Tim Parkin discovered landscape photography at a late age and is trying his best to make up for lost time. After a year spent with a digital SLR, his 40th birthday was a trip to the Hebrides in a viking long house with David Ward and Richard Childs (two of the best landscape photographers in the UK). The large format obsession that infected him over that week has culminated in a recent exhibit of one of his pictures at the National Theatre as part of the Landscape Photographer of the Year awards.

The Kirkstall Abbey People Project group will also be convening.

  • Where: Old Broadcasting House, Woodhouse Lane, LS2 9EN
  • When: 6pm - 9pm; talks start around 6.30pm
  • Cost: £2 entry - includes a hot drink (subject to availability) - sign up on Facebook (not required)

April 11th - Lazy Sunday in Bradford

Building on our great relationship with Impressions Gallery in Bradford City Centre, we're running a great afternoon event that the public is also invited to and will involve a photo amble, a creative tour of the city sculpture trail and a 'play' workshop led by Kristy Noble who delivered the 'Play' sessions last summer.

The event will run from noon to 5pm and is FREE - for more information and to sign up...

Can I ask a favour?

This won't happen very often - but I'm in the middle of preparing for an exhibition at an art festival in Scotland (where I'm also organising an art walk) and I'm looking for a little support getting my concept together.

The theme is around how we make assumptions and others make assumptions about us. All I am looking for is anecdotes of when this happened, what happened - and the impact or effect. You can just email me your thoughts by reply or send in an anonymous anecdote . I will then create photos that represent the anecdotes - and present these in a non judgemental way in a series of pigeon holes. The project is planned to continue over time with more anecdotes being added.

If you want more, please visit the project blog - or ask :-)

That's all, thanks!

It's been a crazy month - and that has knocked back the magazine a little, but James and I are still working on it and hope to have it in the not too distant future. Also, you can expect new projects and workshops from the summer on. You may event find that we start mentioning the 'camp' word again soon...

Til next month...

Jon
